MJ2 is the file extension for the video format defined as Motion JPEG 2000 (Part 3) that contains a motion sequence of JPEG 2000 images. MJ2 files do not involve inter-frame coding, but instead has each frame encoded independently using JPEG 2000 compression. MJ2 files can be produced by digital cameras that capture video; and are also used in high-quality frame-based video recording, and for medical and satellite imagery.
